California Begins to Institute Rank-Choice Voting

In 2006 Oakland voters passed a bill allowing for rank-choice voting.  Rank-choice voting is a process in which the voters choose their top three candidates for Mayor, Governor, etc.  Supporters believe that it will help cut costs by eliminating the need for run-off elections.  With the cities of Oakland, Berkley, and San Leandro planning to institute this voting method in time for the November elections, the question then becomes financing.  Debates have recently ensued over how to inform the public as well as how to pay for it.  Visit www.sfgate.com for more information.
