Florida Governor Crist thought that the job of filing two vacancies in the Public Safety Commission was almost complete when his nominees received an 8-1 vote by the state Senate committee in April. However, when it went before the entire senate they were firmly rejected, despite their strong qualifications. Some are sighting politics as the cause for this denial. The governor did not pass teacher-pay bill earlier in the year. Some in the Senate are claiming there is not enough diversity among the Commission.
