It’s a new year and most people have made lots of resolutions. Well, lots of people have made the same resolutions over and over. Diet, exercise, quitting smoking, organizing the house, socializing more, spending time with family, etc., etc., etc.
The trick is to take that same tired resolution and find an innovative way to meet it. This will make it much easier to stay interested in the process and, just maybe, this will be the year that the resolution turns into an actual habit instead of getting dropped after a month or two.
Imagine if someone had a resolution to meet more people. They might try to exert themselves more during social breaks at work or reach out to people in their church or community group. But what if, instead, they joined a local theater group and kept auditioning until they earned a role? In the meantime they could volunteer to help with sets or coordinate theatrical costume rentals or design programs to keep involved.
By taking such an imaginative route to meeting a resolution, they are not only going to meet new people, they are going to gain skills in public speaking, acting, set design, and who knows what else. Best of all, they will be productive and have lots of fun along the way. This turns the chore of meeting a resolution into something to actually look forward to maintaining — a definite win.
